Are you a candidate for varicose vein treatment? There are many different options for the treatment of varicose veins. Who may NOT be a candidate for varicose vein treatment?
Not everyone that decides to have varicose vein procedures are able to pursue this option. There are several different conditions that may preclude the ability to have a varicose vein surgery or procedure.
A current deep venous thrombosis will usually prevent having a varicose vein procedure, but this is also largely depends on where the clot is located and, at times, the procedure may still be able to be performed.
Some patients also have disease within their arteries, leading to poor blood flow into the legs with weak pulses and this would prevent a varicose vein procedure.
Individuals with an increased bleeding risk due to use of blood thinning medications, like Xarelto and Coumadin for other medical conditions, are not typically candidates for varicose veins procedures.
Those who are bedridden or are unable to walk are also not candidates, due to the need to walk after the procedure for adequate healing.
Pregnant women are unable to have the procedure during pregnancy, but may be a candidate after the baby is born, if they are still suffering from varicose veins.
