How does an ambulatory phlebectomy work?

Our specialists will personally mark the veins of the patient while the patient is in a standing position. This is done because the veins will deflate when the patient is lying down and his legs are parallel to the ground. After the administration of local anesthesia, small incisions are made in the skin using a surgical blade. A small hook inserted through the incision is then used to grasp and extract the bulging veins. Because the incisions are so small, scarring is minimal.

Recovery

Post-surgery, your legs will be bandaged to cover the incisions. There will be no stitches. You will also be fitted for compression stockings, which will help the blood flow properly in your legs, improving healing. Patients typically experience mild swelling in the treated area along with mild bruising and inflammation. Our doctors will prescribe medicine to manage any pain or discomfort. They will also explain how to care for wounds and any effects you may encounter.
